Radio topic...

Heard a topic which is discussed over the air. It's in a chinese FM station. Today, discussed about the amount of pocket money parents gave to their kids. Well, I just happened to heard it on my way to bathroom and I had my views...

The host mentioned the scenerio that parents nowadays are afraid that the kids would be embarressed by the little amount of pocket money, as compared to their classmates. Hence she asked for a second opinion if the parents should gave more or just remained the amount???

Thus the following are some points of my view towards the topic:
Parents should -

  • first considered their financial status
  • think if the kids really need that much???
  • not considered the kids embarressment at this moment. (what is there to worry??? they are kids after all, anyway, this will lead them to overspending, becoming spendthrift. as to say materialistic eventually)
  • not compared their family status with others. (in chinese there's a saying, translated: competitive comparison among others will lead to death; death in the sense that u work darn hard to get those things u can never get and which isn't worth at all )

Too many to go on... So, kids should not be spoilt. You love them, but that doesn't mean you can let them rule the world! Parents are just too kind? Or what should I say....
